In the cozy Gelkingestraat lies the even cozier eatery De Betere Tijden. Here, a homely atmosphere combines with warm hospitality and good food at an attractive price-quality ratio. De Betere Tijden was formerly a Grand Café. In 2017, brothers Koen and Sjoerd Mulder took over the establishment and transformed it into their own restaurant. In the small open kitchen, a surprise menu of 3, 4, or 5 courses is prepared. Service and kitchen intertwine, allowing the chef to regularly come to the table to talk about the dish.
The food does not fall short of this cozy atmosphere. The restaurant has earned 13 points in the Gault & Millau guide for good reason. The Volkskrant summarized in 2023: “De Betere Tijden in Groningen is the type of warm, generous restaurant with reasonable prices that we so often long for in these expensive times.”
De Betere Tijden is open every day from 17:00 to 23:30.
